Overview
What a candidate experiences during a Scout Select certification.
A certification is a proctored, timed skill assessment you can send a candidate a link to from your own
product. It requires the CERTIFICATION_CATALOG_READ, CERTIFICATION_INVITE_CREATE, and
CERTIFICATION_RESULT_READ scopes (see Authentication), and your
organisation must have certifications enabled - otherwise every certification operation returns a
FORBIDDEN error.
What happens
- A candidate is invited to a specific skill + level (e.g. "React - Intermediate").
- Every attempt is camera- and screen-share-proctored. Scout Select uses AI-assisted proctoring to detect suspicious behaviour; a flagged attempt is held for manual review before any certificate or feedback is released.
- Each timed challenge is a randomized set of 10 subjective questions drawn from a much larger, versioned bank. Technical certifications include coding questions.
- Every skill is offered at four levels - Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert. The selected level determines the main focus, while question selection also checks adjacent-level knowledge where applicable.
- Candidates who meet the passing threshold receive a public, signed, verifiable certificate they can add to LinkedIn or share. Candidates below threshold receive concise improvement feedback. A detailed employer-facing report is available for every completed attempt.
Supported languages
English is always available. A certification can additionally be configured for Chinese (Mandarin), Cantonese, Malay, Tamil, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, or Arabic. Candidates choose their preferred language when starting the test - question delivery and the interviewer experience use that language, while certificate verification remains standardised and shareable regardless of language.
Outcomes and what you receive
| Outcome | Candidate receives | You receive |
|---|---|---|
| Pass, proctoring cleared | Certificate email, public verification link, LinkedIn-ready credential | Completion status, pass band, certificate URL, verification status, full report |
| Below threshold, proctoring cleared | Feedback email with a small number of improvement areas | Completion status, result band, score, concept-level strengths/gaps, full report |
| Proctoring flagged | No result email while review is pending | Final result released after manual review |
The full report includes skill and level, attempt status, score/band, assessment summary, concept coverage, per-question feedback, responses/transcript where applicable, and proctoring status. Public certificates expose only verification-safe information: recipient, credential, issuer, dates, and validity.
